The name “Breaking Bats for Jesus” comes from John’s humorous and incredulous observation of the Power Team — 1980s era evangelical bodybuilders who preached the gospel by performing acts of brute strength, like ripping phone books, smashing concrete and, of course, breaking bats with their bare hands.
